Portrait of Derek Sivers

Reading List

Derek Sivers

Founder of CD Baby, Writer and Musician

Derek Sivers started CD Baby in 1998 as a way to sell his own CDs online, and accidentally built it into the largest seller of independent music on the web. He sold it in 2008 and gave the proceeds to a charitable trust for music education.

Since then he has written several short books, including Anything You Want and Hell Yeah or No, and kept a website that is closer to a public notebook than a blog. He reads constantly and rates every book he finishes out of ten, publishing his notes and his verdict, including on the ones he thinks are worthless. That willingness to score honestly is what makes the recommendations here worth something: a nine from Sivers has to beat the many books he has given a two.
