Margaret Atwood is a Canadian novelist and poet, one of the most decorated writers alive, with two Booker Prizes and a body of work spanning six decades. She is best known for The Handmaid’s Tale, her 1985 dystopia about a theocracy that reduces women to their fertility, which found a vast new audience through its television adaptation and its 2019 sequel The Testaments. Across speculative fiction, historical novels and sharp domestic realism, her subject is power, who holds it over whom, and how ordinary people live inside systems built to control them.
