About This Series

Seven novels published between 1997 and 2007, following one boy through seven years at Hogwarts. The structure is the trick: each book is a self-contained school year with its own mystery, while a much darker war assembles underneath. The early volumes read as children's comedy and the later ones as wartime tragedy, and the shift happens gradually enough that readers grow into it. Start with the Sorcerer's Stone and read in order; the series depends on watching characters change.
