Toni Morrison

Toni Morrison was an American novelist and editor who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993 and the Pulitzer for Beloved in 1988. She began publishing with The Bluest Eye in 1970 while working as an editor, and spent that career bringing Black writers into print before her own fiction made her central to American letters. Her subject was memory and what a community carries forward from slavery, told in prose that assumes the reader will keep up.
