Bassem Youssef
Comedian & Satirist
Bassem Youssef is an Egyptian-American comedian, television host and former cardiothoracic surgeon. He began filming satire from his laundry room during the 2011 Egyptian revolution, then hosted El Bernameg from 2011 to 2014, a political comedy show so popular it drew tens of millions of viewers and, eventually, the attention of the state. The show ended under pressure and Youssef left Egypt. He hosted the 43rd International Emmy Awards in 2015 and now works in the United States.
