God and the Fascists

Karlheinz Deschner assembles a critical history of the Catholic Church’s relationships with the fascist regimes of the twentieth century, from Mussolini and Hitler to Franco and Croatia’s Ante Pavelic. Drawing on documents and the public record, he argues that church leaders too often accommodated or supported these movements. The book is a polemical work of religious criticism and remains contested.
