An Ambiguous Utopia

Ursula K. Le Guin

A physicist leaves his anarchist moon for its wealthy twin planet in Le Guin's prize-winning study of freedom, ownership and revolution.

Ursula K. Le Guin’s 1974 novel follows Shevek, a physicist from the anarchist society on the moon Anarres, as he travels to Urras, the wealthy, propertied planet his people left behind. Subtitled An Ambiguous Utopia, it weighs collectivism against individual freedom without letting either side off lightly. It is one of the few novels to win the Hugo, Nebula and Locus awards, and it belongs to her Hainish Cycle.
