The Abominable Man
Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö's 1971 police novel, the seventh Martin Beck book, in Thomas Teal's translation.
A senior policeman known for his brutality is knifed in his hospital bed, and Martin Beck works through the man’s many enemies while a heavily armed man climbs onto a Stockholm roof. Thomas Teal translated this edition. Börge Hellström chose it because it is set in the neighbourhood where he grew up, and he praises its realistic dialogue and its picture of Swedish society around 1970.
