Barbara Kingsolver is an American novelist, essayist and poet whose best known works include The Poisonwood Bible, the story of a missionary family in the Congo, and Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, an account of her family’s attempt to eat only what they could grow or source locally. She won the Pulitzer Prize in 2023 for Demon Copperhead. Trained as a biologist, she writes fiction with an ecologist’s eye for how people and places shape each other.
