Forward

Notes on the Future of Our Democracy

Andrew Yang · 2021

Drawing on his presidential and mayoral runs, Yang argues American politics is structurally broken and pitches reforms to loosen the two-party grip.

Written after his presidential run and his campaign for mayor of New York, Forward is part memoir of an outsider’s collision with the political machine and part reform manifesto. Yang argues that the two-party system is structurally incapable of solving the country’s problems because its incentives reward conflict over results, and he lays out changes, ranked-choice voting, open primaries and more, aimed at loosening that grip. It doubles as the founding argument for his Forward Party.
