Make Way for Ducklings
A pair of mallards choose an island in the Boston Public Garden, and the city's traffic obligingly stops for them.
Mr and Mrs Mallard look for somewhere safe to raise a family and settle on an island in the Boston Public Garden. When the ducklings are old enough, Mrs Mallard marches them across the city and a policeman stops the traffic. McCloskey’s charcoal drawings won the Caldecott Medal in 1942 and the birds have since been cast in bronze where the book put them.
