Love, Anger, Madness
A Haitian Triptych
Three linked novellas of life under the Duvalier dictatorship, withdrawn before publication because printing them would have endangered the author's family.
Three linked novellas set under the Duvalier dictatorship: a woman recording her town’s cruelties in a journal, a mother trading her body to protect her family, and a group of poets writing in hiding. Vieux-Chauvet withdrew the book before publication because releasing it would have endangered her relatives in Haiti, and went into exile in the United States.

The book is a beautiful trilogy, three sets of stories of people who each in their own way are taking a stand against the dictatorship.
