Russell Brand came up as a stand-up and broadcaster in Britain before moving into Hollywood comedy, and has since built a large audience as a podcaster and political commentator. My Booky Wook, his account of addiction and recovery, was better received as writing than celebrity memoirs usually are.
His later books turn to politics and to the twelve-step tradition he credits with his own recovery. His political position has shifted markedly over the years, from a left-wing anti-capitalism to an audience largely on the American right, and he has been open about the change.
