Norman Finkelstein
Political scientist and author
Norman G. Finkelstein is an American political scientist whose work concentrates on the Israel-Palestine conflict and on how the memory of the Holocaust has been used politically. The child of two Holocaust survivors, he wrote The Holocaust Industry arguing that the catastrophe has been instrumentalised in ways that serve present interests.
His books are combative, heavily footnoted, and largely built on close reading of the sources his opponents cite. He was denied tenure at DePaul in 2007 after a public campaign, and has worked outside the academy since.
