Megha Majumdar is an Indian novelist living in New York. Her debut, A Burning, follows three characters whose lives cross after a train is firebombed in Kolkata: a Muslim girl accused on the strength of a Facebook comment, her former teacher, and a hijra actress who could clear her but has her own ambitions. It became a New York Times bestseller and won a Whiting Award. She worked as a book editor before publishing fiction.
