Portrait of Jonathan Franzen

Author

Jonathan Franzen

Novelist and Essayist

Jonathan Franzen is an American novelist and essayist whose 2001 novel The Corrections, about a Midwestern family gathering for one last Christmas, won the National Book Award and was a Pulitzer finalist. Freedom followed to similar acclaim. He writes long social novels in an era that keeps announcing their death, and his essays on birds and climate are as combative as his fiction is patient.
