Isabel Allende
Novelist
Isabel Allende is a Chilean-American novelist who has been called the world’s most widely read Spanish-language author. The House of the Spirits (1982) and City of the Beasts (2002) are among her best-known books, and her novels, which sometimes draw on magical realism, often weave personal experience and history together with elements of myth. She has lived in California since 1989 and became a US citizen in 1993. She received Chile’s National Literature Prize in 2010 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2014.
