Author
Eric Ambler
Novelist and Screenwriter
Eric Ambler was an English novelist who reinvented the thriller by making its heroes ordinary. Where earlier spy fiction ran on gentleman adventurers, Ambler’s protagonists were engineers, journalists and salesmen who stumbled into political violence they did not understand and could not control. He wrote The Mask of Dimitrios and The Light of Day, which won an Edgar Award, and worked as a screenwriter. He is widely regarded as the direct ancestor of the modern espionage novel.
