Douglas Stuart

Douglas Stuart is a Scottish American writer and fashion designer who won the Booker Prize for his first novel, Shuggie Bain, the story of a boy caring for his alcoholic mother in 1980s Glasgow. He was born in Glasgow, studied at the Scottish College of Textiles and the Royal College of Art, and moved to New York at twenty four to work in fashion design, writing in the evenings for years before he published anything.
