David Whyte is an Anglo-Irish poet who works at the unlikely intersection of poetry and corporate life. The Heart Aroused: Poetry and the Preservation of the Soul in Corporate America became a bestseller by arguing that the language of work is far too small for the people doing it. He trained as a marine zoologist before turning to poetry, and his later books, including the Consolations volumes, define ordinary words slowly enough to make them strange again.
