Unto This Last

Four essays Ruskin published in 1860, so unpopular that the magazine serialising them cut the series short. His argument is that political economy had mistaken a moral question for a technical one: wealth means nothing measured apart from the lives it produces, and a just wage is not whatever the market will bear. The title comes from the parable of the vineyard, where the last labourer is paid the same as the first.
