Tropic of Cancer
Henry Miller's autobiographical novel of a struggling American writer in Paris, in the Grove Press paperback edition.
Henry Miller wrote Tropic of Cancer in Paris between 1930 and 1934, and the Obelisk Press first published it there in 1934. The United States barred that edition until Grove Press published the book in 1961, which led to obscenity trials. In 1964 the Supreme Court ruled it was not obscene. Paulo Coelho credits Miller with the initial stimulus to write: reading him, he decided, this was literature.
