Reacher leaves the Florida Keys to learn why a private investigator came looking for him, and uncovers a Vietnam War secret someone will kill to keep.
Published in 1999, the third Jack Reacher novel finds him digging swimming pools in Key West when a private investigator arrives asking about him and is soon murdered. Following the trail to New York, Reacher is drawn into the search for a soldier listed as missing in action in Vietnam, and into the path of a vicious loan shark with a secret he will kill to protect. It also brings Reacher back to Jodie, the daughter of his old mentor.
