Tokyo Ever After

Emiko Jean · 2021

A Californian teenager learns her absent father is the Crown Prince of Japan, and is flown to Tokyo to meet him.

Izumi grows up in small-town California with a single Japanese American mother and no idea who her father is, until a name in an old poetry book identifies him as the Crown Prince of Japan. Sent to Tokyo, she is a walking protocol breach and a tabloid target. Jean writes it as a comedy but takes seriously what it is to be too American in Japan and too Japanese in America, at the same time.
