The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating
Bedridden by illness, the author watches a woodland snail in a pot of violets and learns its whole world.
Bedridden for years by an illness that left her unable to sit up, Bailey was given a pot of violets with a woodland snail in it. She watched it for a year, its eating, its sleeping, its single tooth-ribbon of a mouth, and read everything written about snails. The result is a short book about attention and about a life narrowed to what can be observed from a pillow.

Somebody brings her a violet in a pot which has a snail on it, and she becomes fascinated with this snail. And she starts to learn everything about snails, which are not what you would have as the usual household pet. It is an engaging story of snails, which is surprising. This is also an example of a book that you would want to have in your library, because it is such a handsome book and nicely illustrated.
