The Sanatorium
A converted Alpine tuberculosis sanatorium, now a luxury hotel, cut off by a storm as guests begin disappearing.
A remote Swiss hotel converted from a tuberculosis sanatorium, a storm closing the road, and a detective on leave who should not be investigating anything. Pearse makes excellent use of the building’s history and the architecture of glass and snow, and the plot turns on Elin’s own unresolved family death as much as the disappearances. Atmospheric rather than fast, and the setting does a great deal of the work.
