Fazlur Rahman Ansari’s two-volume study sets out a systematic account of Islam as a basis for social order, moving from the Qur’anic conception of God and the human person to the institutions a Muslim society requires. Ansari taught in Karachi and travelled widely as a missionary; the book is his principal work, and the series in which his student Imran N. Hosein publishes is named in his memory.
