The Osama bin Laden I Know
An Oral History of al Qaeda's Leader
Peter Bergen's 2006 oral history of al Qaeda's leader, built on accounts from people who knew him, in the Free Press paperback.
Peter Bergen collected testimony from people who met, fought beside or studied Osama bin Laden, tracing him from his youth in Jeddah through the founding of al Qaeda to the 9/11 attacks. Yosri Fouda calls it a great reference on the mindset of al Qaeda. He differs with Bergen on one point: Fouda believes 9/11 would not have happened without ground-level figures such as Mohamed Atta.
