The Origin of Wealth

Eric D. Beinhocker

What if the economy evolves like a living system? A case for complexity economics and a new account of where wealth comes from.

Eric D. Beinhocker argues that traditional economics, built on the idea of equilibrium, misses how economies actually grow. Drawing on complexity science, evolutionary biology and computer simulation, he describes the economy as an evolving system in which businesses, technologies and social arrangements compete and adapt. Wealth, in this view, is the product of that evolutionary process.
