The North Will Rise Again: In Search of the Future in Northern Heartlands
Niven argues the north of England holds a political and cultural inheritance that London-centred accounts keep missing, in part travelogue and part deindustrial polemic.
Part travelogue and part polemic, Niven travels the north of England arguing that it holds a distinct political and cultural inheritance which London-centred accounts consistently miss. He roams into popular music without much warning, and is more persuasive on culture than on the economics of deindustrialisation, which he treats more briskly than the subject deserves.

If you can look past the usual ill-informed chatter about Maggie ruining northern England (the author needs to study growth models!), this is quite an interesting book.
