The Fat Years is a 2009 science fiction novel by Chan Koonchung. It was published in traditional Chinese in Hong Kong and Taiwan and has never been published in mainland China. Set in 2013, it concerns what Chan calls the new normal of China, a society whose city dwellers seem optimistic and even euphoric. Chan prefers to call it a heterotopia rather than a pure utopia or dystopia. Michael S. Duke translated the English edition.
