The Darkness
The Hulda trilogy begins here, with a Reykjavík detective pushed into retirement at 64.
Detective Inspector Hulda Hermannsdóttir dreads the loneliness of early retirement. Before she leaves, she is given two weeks to solve one cold case of her choice, and she picks the death of a young Russian woman whose body washed up on an Icelandic shore and was ruled a suicide. Jónasson tells the trilogy in reverse chronological order. Victoria Cribb translated it from Dimma, and a television adaptation has been announced.
