The Carrying
Ada Limón's poems on aging parents, infertility, a body in pain and a nation in turmoil.
This collection won the National Book Critics Circle Award. Its poems follow a daughter tending aging parents and a woman struggling with infertility, who wonders if she is meant to carry grief instead of a child. They also follow a body seized by pain and by ecstasy, and they register a nation convulsing around it. Milkweed Editions published it, and Limón was later named the 24th US Poet Laureate.
