Erin, a documentary filmmaker, and Mark, a recently redundant banker, find something in the water on their honeymoon dive, and the decision they make in the next few minutes reorganises their lives. Steadman, an actor by trade, writes with a strong sense of scene and withholding, opening the novel with her narrator digging a grave and then reeling back to explain.
