Slouch: Posture Panic in Modern America
A century of Americans being told to stand up straight, and the science that was never there.
Beth Linker traces the posture panic that produced school screenings, military standards and a vast industry of correction, and shows how thin the evidence for any of it was. It is a history of a moral campaign conducted in medical language, and it is a good deal more entertaining than that description suggests.

Beth Linker, Slouch: Posture Panic in Modern America. For a long time I’ve been thinking there should be a good book on this topic, and now there is one. Both fun and interesting.
