Postmodern Ethics
After the rulebooks fail, where does morality come from? A sociologist's answer in care for the other.
Zygmunt Bauman argues that the modern hope of a universal, rule-based ethics has failed, and that this need not leave us without morality. In a postmodern age, he writes, moral responsibility begins in each person’s direct concern for another human being rather than in codes and systems. The book shaped debates about ethics across the social sciences.
