Orlando Furioso

Ludovico Ariosto · 2008

Ludovico Ariosto's epic poem of knights, ladies, war and love, in Guido Waldman's translation for Oxford World's Classics.

Orlando Furioso is an Italian epic poem by Ludovico Ariosto, with an earliest version in 1516 and a complete form published in 1532. A continuation of Boiardo’s Orlando Innamorato, it concerns knights and ladies, war and love, and mixes realism and fantasy with a gigantic sea monster and a flying horse called the hippogriff. Dacia Maraini loves its courageous women who fight as men and travel the world. Guido Waldman translated this Oxford edition of 630 pages.
