One Day in December

Laurie sees a man through a bus window one December evening and is certain, in a way she cannot explain, that he matters. A year later her best friend Sarah introduces her new boyfriend, and it is him. The novel then spends a decade with the three of them, which is where its interest lies: not in whether the two get together, but in what it costs a friendship to hold a secret that long.
