Next Year in Havana

In 2017 Marisol travels to Cuba to scatter her grandmother’s ashes, and finds a version of the country nothing in her Miami upbringing prepared her for. Alternating with her story is Elisa’s, a sugar baron’s daughter in 1958 Havana falling in love with a revolutionary as her world comes apart. Cleeton, whose own family left Cuba, writes about exile as an inheritance, and about how differently the same revolution looks depending on which side you left on.
