Memoirs and Misinformation

Billed as fiction but drenched in real life, Jim Carrey’s novel with Dana Vachon stars a version of Carrey himself, a burned-out megastar adrift in a Hollywood of gurus, agents, and looming apocalypse. Part satire of celebrity and ego, part spiritual inquiry into whether the self is real at all, it careens from comic set pieces to genuine existential dread. Strange, self-lacerating, and unlike a typical star’s book, it reads like Carrey trying to dissolve his own myth on the page.
