Man Tiger is a novel by the Indonesian writer Eka Kurniawan. Dee Lestari describes it as the story of Margio, a boy raised in poverty and a dysfunctional family who takes revenge on a man who hurt his mother, drawing on the half-man, half-animal creatures of Indonesian oral tradition. Labodalih Sembiring’s English translation was published by Verso in 2015 and runs to 172 pages.

Eka’s writing has a distinct, masculine voice. I admire his seriousness in crafting his story.
