A man in a caravan versus the council on St George's Day, carrying an argument about England.
Jez Butterworth’s play sets Johnny ‘Rooster’ Byron, a former daredevil living in a caravan in a Wiltshire wood, against the council trying to evict him on St George’s Day. It became a landmark of modern British theatre by making one unrepentant man carry an argument about England, myth and who gets to belong to it.
