Meghan O'Rourke · 2008

Meghan O'Rourke's first collection, whose sleepless speakers come of age amid love affairs, obsession and the threat of war.

Halflife, published by W. W. Norton in 2007, was Meghan O’Rourke’s first book of poems. Its insomniac speakers are coming of age in a world that feels mythical and threatening, speaking wryly of destructive love affairs, aesthetic obsession and encroaching war while holding on to their faith in the imagination. O’Rourke was a poetry co-editor of The Paris Review when it appeared, and the New York Times Book Review called it magnificent.
