Nick Davies turned the methods of investigative journalism on the British press itself, commissioning research into where stories actually come from. The finding was that most copy is recycled agency material and PR, processed at speed by too few reporters. He gives the practice a name, churnalism, and traces how falsehoods pass into print not by conspiracy but by exhaustion.
