Flamingo Boy

Set in the Camargue, where flamingos gather on the salt marshes, this novel follows a boy who sees the world differently and the family who protect him through the German occupation. Morpurgo wrote it after meeting a woman who had made a life study of the birds, and it turns on the carousel her family kept and on what an occupying soldier chose to do about it.
