Dept. of Speculation
Jenny Offill's fragmentary novel, compressed on purpose and shortlisted for the Folio Prize.
Jenny Offill’s second novel was named one of the ten best books of 2014 by the New York Times Book Review and shortlisted for the PEN/Faulkner Award and the Folio Prize. It avoids a typical plot on purpose, and Offill has said it came from the ashes of another book. Meg Wolitzer, reviewing it for NPR, called it intriguing, beautifully written, sly and often profound.
