Children of Time

Adrian Tchaikovsky · 2018

Winner of the 2016 Arthur C. Clarke Award, Adrian Tchaikovsky's science fiction novel of two species seeking a future.

Published in 2015, the book follows two strands. One tracks the evolution of a civilization of genetically modified spiders (Portia labiata) on a terraformed planet, guided by an artificial intelligence modelled on a human terraformer. The other follows an ark ship of cryonically preserved humans searching for a new home after Earth’s environmental collapse. The series won a Hugo Award in the series category in 2023. Peter Wohlleben calls it a reminder to protect our planet.

German Forester and Author

After the end of humanity on Earth, survivors try to re-create the same thing on another planet. This goes completely wrong and reminds us that we had better protect our current planet. Also, it's fantastic to see the world through the eyes of ants and spiders.
