By Way of Deception
The Making of a Mossad Officer
A former Mossad case officer's account of how Israel's spy agency recruits, trains and runs its operations, and the book Israel went to court to stop.
Victor Ostrovsky served as a katsa, or case officer, in the Mossad before leaving the agency, and wrote this memoir with the Canadian journalist Claire Hoy. It follows his training at the Mossad academy and sets out his allegations about operations between 1971 and 1985, from recruiting Iraqi nuclear scientists in France to what the agency knew before the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing. Israel won an injunction against its US publication in 1990. An appeals court lifted it within 48 hours, and the book went to number one on the New York Times nonfiction list.
