Bad Therapy: Why the Kids Aren’t Growing Up
The argument that therapy culture has made childhood more fragile, and the dispute over whether it causes the decline or merely responds to it.
Shrier argues that the therapeutic apparatus surrounding modern childhood, from school counselling to diagnostic language, has made children more fragile rather than less. The reporting is vivid and the argument is contested: whether bad therapy causes the mental health decline or merely responds to it is exactly what her critics dispute.

I agree with many of the anti-therapy arguments in this book, but still I feel that “bad therapy” is a second-order phenomenon, not the initial cause of the growing mental health problems of America’s young people.
