Arctic Dreams

Barry Lopez spent five years travelling in the Canadian Arctic, and the book that came out of it moves between the migration of narwhals, the archaeology of the tundra, the history of European exploration and the quality of northern light. It is natural history written as prose-poetry, and it argues throughout that landscapes shape the minds that try to describe them.
